Showcased on a sandy stage between a panoramic expanse of vivid Lake Michigan blues and the dramatic hues of deep woods, Design Home 2009’s distinctive colors, finishes and furnishings make an immediate sensory impression.

Anyone who’s ever wielded a roller knows that paint can totally transform the mood of a room or a home. And once the color choices were made, homebuilder BDR knew just who to turn to for a flawless application. “Grandville-based Kosters and DeVries Inc. has been a partner with us in building fine homes for 15 years,” says BDR project manager Mark Homans. “The decision to work with them on this project came naturally.”

In fact, the suppliers and businesses BDR brought into this project are all characterized by a similarly strong working relationship. Top of the World Granite of Walker, Mich., bolstered the project with their extensive knowledge of stone products and attention to detail. “We repeatedly rely on them for our countertop production,” shares Mary Buikema, BDR’s designer for this home. “They also have a very large warehouse of remnant stone that gives our clients an opportunity to find unusual granite pieces at a fraction of the cost of an entire slab.”

One of the most thrilling aspects of making a house a home is filling it with gorgeous furnishings. Collaborating on this exciting project was a mutual decision for BDR and David Israels, president of Israels John Widdicomb Trade Center in Grand Rapids. “Julie Holmes and I have worked very closely with David and our client on the selections for the Design Home interiors,” says Buikema. “We have geared our selections to year-round living with a slant toward the cottage style, choosing colorful fabrics, seating for entertaining and light, fresh colors.”

With details falling perfectly into place, anticipation grows each day for the unveiling of this lakeside dream home.
